If your 4X4 lever shifter is sloppy has a lot of side to movement or you're having trouble shifting between modes - then this ball probably disintegrated and needs be replaced. This part is located at the base of 4X4 lever where it meets transfer case and can be accessed from inside vehicle by removing console trim. Prohibits me from adding a link to the article but if you search for transfer case control lever will find it. Brand new condition - genuine Mitsubishi part, made in japan not an aftermarket reproduction.

5 Montero I do not know if this part also works with Montero sports. Mitsubishi transfer case ball m gearshift fits all gen 2.
